121 cats and kittens were flown in from overcrowded shelters in Memphis this week for the Humane Society of North Texas Mega Adoption Event.

Staff at the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth have been busy this week getting ready for their Mega Adoption event. On Wednesday, they were busy processing 121 cats and kittens from overcrowded shelters in Memphis that were flown to DFW by Wings of Rescue.

“They are Texan now,” HSNT Senior Director Cassie Davidson said. “They’re transplants, but they’re Texans!”

The felines were weighed, given vaccinations, and checked for ringworm to make sure they were healthy and adoptable.

“Then we make sure they’re also microchipped,” HSNT Assistant Manager of Intake & Wellness Estefany Alanis said. “So it’s easier if they get lost once they’re adopted.”

“We recognized that there is such a need for cat adoptions at these events,” Davidson said. “We were really slim pickin’s at our last Mega Adoption event, so working with shelter partners, we decided to go ahead and fly in additional cats and kittens to make sure that they all had a better chance of finding a forever home.”

The Texas transplants will be among 1,000 pets from 30 DFW shelters and beyond available for adoption at the Humane Society of North Texas Mega Adoption Event on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17 at Amon G. Carter Exhibits Center in Fort Worth.

“With 1,000 pets under one roof…if you can’t find that perfect pet to fill your life, then where else can you go and have that many pets under one roof?” Davidson asked. “We will have a pet for everyone.”

Adoptions from the event will go towards helping NBC5/T39’s goal this month to Clear the Shelters.
