Young teen dies after being hit by pickup truck on Jacksonville’s Northside, police say

  • August 15, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a young teenager died on Thursday afternoon after being hit by a pickup truck while walking across a street on Jacksonville’s Northside.

Police said the crash occurred just before 4 p.m. on Biscayne Boulevard when a Toyota pickup truck, which was headed northbound on the roadway, hit the teen.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene, provided aid, and took the teen to the hospital, JSO said. The teen was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police said the pickup truck’s driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.

This incident marked the 100th traffic fatality of the year, and the 19th involving a pedestrian, JSO said.

Biscayne Boulevard is currently shut down as police continue their investigation, but officials add that it will reopen in about one hour.

“The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the parents, the family members, the loved ones, and the friends of the child. This is a sad day, especially for the family members,” said JSO Sergeant Robert Hungerford.

Hungerford added that he doesn’t believe the crash was related to the teen heading home from school due to the time of the incident, but reminded drivers to practice patience and caution as the new school year gets underway.

“Remember, the young people that are now out and about and all over the place,“ he explained. ”There’s a short window for them to be coming into school…So just be proactive, especially in the school zones these first few weeks.”
