FORT LAUDERDALE- St. Johns Classical Academy kindergarten teacher Sylvia Mencner received the 2025 Charter School Champion of the Year Award from the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS).

Mencner is one of nine teachers throughout Florida who were given the special recognition, all representing schools at grade levels ranging from kindergarten to high school.

The award period covers the 2024/2025 school year calendar.

Champion charter school teachers “are exceptional teachers who inspire their students to reach high achievement levels at their charter schools,” according to nomination materials.

For the 12th year, FCPCS received nominations in several categories, including charter school teachers, charter school leaders, charter school governing board members, charter school innovators and charter school pioneers.

“Congratulations to Sylvia Mencner and all of the 2025 Charter School Champions of the Year, and congratulations to their schools and communities,” said Robert Haag, president of FCPCS. “Each of the winners helps to deliver quality education to Florida’s charter school students. They are important contributors to Florida’s hugely successful charter school movement.”
