OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Inclement weather altered the start of the 2025 BMW Championship with some golfers able to go notably low as play opened at Caves Valley Golf Club. Robert MacIntyre took greatest advantage of the softer conditions, shooting an 8-under 62 to take a three-shot lead on the other 48 mean in the field, a round that may be impossible to top over the remaining 54 holes in the second leg of the 2025 FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Tommy Fleetwood and Scottie Scheffler respectively sit three and four shots back of MacIntyre as Round 2 begins Friday, while Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler and Ben Griffin also sit inside the top six. All are seeking to not only end up atop the leaderboard at the conclusion of play Sunday but put together low enough scores where their point totals will allow them to advance to next week’s Tour Championship, the PGA Tour’s season finale. Rory McIlroy will be fighting from a bit further back after shooting par in his opening round, though the world No. 2 is certainly not in any danger of moving forward regardless where he finishes this tournament.
