Tyler Adams reflects on Coach Pochettino’s first season with the USMNT

Tyler Adams evaluates Pochettino’s first year at the helm and what makes him such a good coach for the USMNT.

Sports Seriously

Barcelona begins their 2025-26 La Liga season in a noted vacation spot, with the Catalan giants jetting off to the Balearic islands to take on Mallorca.

As has been the case for the past few summers, it’s been a strange build-up for Barça. The club’s spending on salaries and renovations to their famous home stadium Camp Nou have made compliance with La Liga financial standards a major challenge. As such, every transfer comes with a mystery over whether Barcelona will actually be cleared to register new signings.

The latest example came Wednesday, The Athletic reporting that the club’s board is putting up their own cash to allow for loan addition Marcus Rashford to be added to the official roster for the 2025-26 season.

U.S. men’s national team fans will have to wait on one specific storyline to develop in this one. Barcelona’s registration issues and an injury to Marc-André Ter Stegen had seemed to open the door to 19-year-old Miami native Diego Kochen making his first-team against Mallorca (a club whose ownership includes NBA greats Steve Nash and Steve Kerr).

However, late on Wednesday, La Liga authorities cleared the way for Barca to register new goalkeeper Joan García, likely leaving Kochen to wait for another opportunity.

Despite all the troubles off the field, Barcelona kicks the campaign off as defending champions, and with young phenom Lamine Yamal, has one of the world’s biggest stars. That should make them strong favorites against Mallorca, though Saturday’s hosts were one of La Liga’s best defensive sides last season.
