A marathon screening of the two-part, nearly five-hour HBO documentary “Billy Joel: And So It Goes” will be held at the Sag Harbor Cinema on Aug. 27, accompanied by Joel’s longtime creative director, Steve Cohen, who is an executive producer of the film, and directors Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin. The screening also includes a video greeting from the Piano Man himself.

The event is a fundraiser for the cinema with members given first priority to reserve seats for a donation of $150. Any leftover tickets will be made available to the general public on Friday for the same donation.

“Billy Joel: And So It Goes” marks the first time the singer has participated in an in-depth documentary about his life. Lacy, best known as the creator of PBS’ “American Masters” series, and Levin spent roughly four years interviewing Joel and those around him, including Elizabeth Weber, his former wife and manager; Liberty DeVitto, his longtime drummer; Alex Joel, the half brother the singer met only as an adult; Howard Stern, Joel’s longtime friend and fellow Long Islander; and many others. The film premiered at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre as the opening night selection of the Tribeca Festival in June and premiered on HBO in July.

Part One of the film begins at 4 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception at 6:30. The filmmakers will speak at 8 p.m., followed by a screening of Part Two at 8:20. For updates on available tickets, go to sagharborcinema.org.

In August, 2022, Joel, a part-time Sag Harbor resident, attended a sneak preview at the cinema of “Billy Joel: Live at Yankee Stadium,” a re-edited film of the Piano Man’s 1990 concert.
