BYU had its first NBA draftee since Jimmer Fredette in 2011 as Egor Demin was drafted by the Brooklyn Nets with the 8th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft.

A 5-star player in the 2024 recruiting class, Demin had lottery pick potential coming to BYU and showed his talent in some of of the biggest moments of Kevin Young’s inaugural season. Egor struggled at times during his freshman year, but he was one of BYU’s top players as a freshman and a huge part of BYU’s Sweet 16 run. For the season, Egor averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. He scored 15 points in BYU’s first round win over VCU; nearly had a triple double with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and just one turnover versus Wisconsin to lead BYU to the Sweet 16; and versus Alabama had 15 points and 7 assists.

Egor struggled at times with turnovers and shot 27% from three, but NBA spacing should work in Egor’s favor. Egor measured at nearly 6-foot-9 without shoes during the NBA combine, and his passing ability at his size gives him some of the highest upside in the draft.

For BYU, Egor finally gives the program somebody that should be a rotation player and a foundation for Kevin Young to build on as he works to build his NBA pipeline in Provo.
