A North Texas woman is charged with kidnapping after allegedly trying to take two kids from Illinois to their father in Mexico.
AURORA, Ill. — A North Texas woman is facing kidnapping and child abduction charges after allegedly attempting to take two children from a home in a Chicago suburb to their father in Mexico, authorities said.
The Aurora Police Department said officers were called to the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue about 3:30 p.m. Thursday for a possible kidnapping involving children ages 11 and 13. APD said the children were staying with family when a woman arrived, claiming she needed to take them on their mother’s behalf to another state.
The suspect, identified as Cindy Sanchez, 47, of Fort Worth, left with the kids, police said. Officers later confirmed the children’s mother had not given permission, per Aurora PD. APD said the Chicago Police Department later located the woman and the children at Midway Airport. Aurora officers responded to assist, and Sanchez was taken into custody. The children were safely returned to their family.
Investigators said Sanchez, a relative of the children’s father, was paid by him to bring the children to Mexico through the Texas border. Aurora PD said the father does not have legal custody of the children.
Sanchez was charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of child abduction, and two counts of unlawful restraint. She was booked into the Kane County Jail, but has since been released, according to jail records.
