A Texas State Trooper sustained minor injuries while arresting a Fort Worth man in Ellis County. A passenger is still on the run.

ELLIS COUNTY, Texas — A Texas State Trooper sustained minor injuries Friday afternoon while attempting to arrest a driver during a traffic stop on U.S. 287 near Black Champ Road, authorities said.

The trooper pulled over a red GMC pickup truck at about 3 p.m. after observing a traffic violation, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). As the truck slowed down to pull over, someone got out of the passenger’s seat and fled north on foot, officials said.

Shortly after, the driver, identified as Jose Molina, 28, of Fort Worth, stopped the truck. According to DPS, the trooper tried to arrest Molina, but he resisted, injuring the trooper in the struggle. Authorities said the trooper was eventually able to take Molina into custody.

Molina was booked into the Ellis County Jail on charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana, DPS said.

The trooper is being treated at a local hospital, and the passenger who fled has not been identified, per DPS.
