A 73-year-old woman was killed after a suspected DUI driver crashed into a home overnight Saturday in Downey, according to police.

Just before 2:30 a.m., a man driving east on the 9500 block of Gallatin Road crashed into a home in the area for reasons still under investigation. As a result of the crash, a 73-year-old woman in the home died at the scene, according to the Downey Police Department.

The victim’s name was not released.

A 24-year-old woman who was also in the home was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. The severity of her injuries was not disclosed.

The driver, who was described as a 24-year-old Maywood man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police have not said what charges he may face in connection with the crash.
