Illinois men’s basketball has landed a commitment from Landon Davis, a power forward out of Waukee Northwest High School in Waukee, Iowa, in the class of 2024:
Davis is unrated in On3/Rivals’ database. He’s a 3-star per 247Sports, which has him as the 226th highest rated overall prospect, 32nd highest-rated power forward and fourth highest rated prospect out of Iowa in its composite rating,
It’s an interesting commitment for a few reasons. For one, Illinois is Davis’ most impressive offer by far. He holds offers from Drake, Northern Iowa and Illinois-Chicago but lacks an offer from in-state Big Ten rival Iowa. The Illini extended their offer in early July, with Davis committing just over a month later.
His commitment could herald something of a Midwestern theme in Illinois’ 2024 class. Its lone other member, 3-star guard Ethan Brown, hails from Missouri, another border state. The Illini are rather famously loading up on international talent, but it looks like they’re getting some long-term pieces through the local high school footprint as well.
