The Texas Education Agency released school accountability ratings for the 2024-2025 school year on Friday, with some of the largest school districts in North Texas grading between A and C.
The Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington and Frisco ISDs have the largest enrollment among districts in North Texas. Schools and districts are graded on an A to an F range. Their scores are broken down below.
- In the Dallas ISD there were 139,776 students enrolled last year and the district was rated a B with a score of 83. The Dallas ISD has had two consecutive years of improvement. In 2023-24 they were rated a C with a score of 79 and in 2022-23 they were rated a C with a score of 76. The TEA said 61 of the district’s 233 rated schools scored an A, 107 scored a B, 49 scored a C, 14 scored a D and two scored an F in the 24-25 ratings. The TEA’s A-F rating system was first introduced in 2018 to show how schools performed in three areas: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. The methodology had been largely unchanged until the 2022-2023 school year. That year, the TEA said, “The methods of calculating A-F scores were updated to more accurately reflect performance.”

In April, the TEA released delayed accountability ratings for the 2022-23 school year after they were withheld pending a lawsuit. School districts sued over the agency’s updated rating system, claiming it would take some “A” schools and grade them with a “C.”
According to a 2023 NBC 5 report, the lawsuit claimed the drastic changes were not properly communicated to districts ahead of time and that they didn’t have time to prepare. Some superintendents argued the change was an attempt by the TEA to make schools look worse and to help pass school choice in the state legislature and added that lower campus grades can impact teacher retention.
While the school districts have known their scores for years, an appellate court ruling earlier this month allowed the TEA to release the 2022-23 scores to the public.
