Tropical moisture has moved into South Texas and will bring about the chance for scattered downpours through Saturday afternoon. Some areas could pick up a quick 1 to 2 inches of rain, so some localized flooding can’t be ruled out. DFW remains under a heat advisory through tomorrow evening as heat index values could approach 110 degrees. Heat lingers through the weekend statewide.

1. City of Arlington pays off AT&T Stadium debt early

The City of Arlington is taking a large amount off its balance sheet this week by paying off its obligation for AT&T Stadium early.

The city is making its last payment of its $325 million contribution toward the stadium on Friday, 10 years earlier than the full repayment is due.

2. Gov. Greg Abbott calls for new special session now underway

After the first special session ended on Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott called for a second special session, which began at noon on the same day.

In a proclamation, Abbott said the new special session will include 19 agenda items.

3. Democrats strategize options to return to Texas Capitol

The House Democrats are likely to be in Texas again this weekend.

The caucus announced two conditions for their return: the Legislature’s adjournment sine die on Friday, which happened, and the introduction of California’s proposed congressional map, which Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he would ask voters to approve.

Kellogg says it will remove artificial dyes from cereals by the end of 2027

WK Kellogg Co. plans to remove artificial dyes from its breakfast cereals in the next two and a half years, according to the company and the attorney general of Texas. The maker of Froot Loops and Apple Jacks gave the timeline as U.S. food producers face increasing pressure from the U.S. government and consumers to phase out synthetic colorings from their products.
