Logan Thompson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Wednesday’s Washington Nationals game.
The Washington Capitals starting goaltender will represent the Humane Rescue Alliance as the team hosts it’s sixth and penultimate “Pups in the Park” night.
“Logan and his fiancée, Linnea, are huge animal lovers who’ve teamed up with HRA to help more pets in DC find safe, loving homes,” the group wrote on social media Friday. “Big thanks to the @capitals for always backing dog rescue and to the @nationals for making Pups in the Park one of our favorite traditions!”
Fans who attend “Pups in the Park” are permitted to bring their furry companions into Nationals Park, and later, down to the field for the “Pups in the Park Parade” upon conclusion of the Nats’ game against the New York Mets.
The Humane Rescue Alliance is an organization that “emphasizes specialized care for both animals and their families,” according to its website. The group has two campuses in DC and New Jersey where staff provide “direct care to an animal in crisis.” Thompson has spent time aiding the organization in its mission since joining the Caps last summer.
Thompson is the first Capitals player to throw out the first pitch at a Nationals game this season. Recently retired Caps forward TJ Oshie made an appearance at a Minnesota Twins game on July 29.
It also appears that Thompson is the first Caps player since Alex Ovechkin in 2019 to be given ceremonial first pitch honors at Nats Park. The Capitals captain hyped up the crowd and delivered a toss to the plate ahead of Game 4 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
