With SEPTA‘s service cuts beginning in just seven days, ambassadors will be out at several stations and stops on Monday to assist riders who will need to change their routine due to the shortened or eliminated routes.

The transit system will go ahead with their “death spiral” cuts after Pennsylvania lawmakers failed to reach a funding deal to fill SEPTA’s $213 million budget shortfall before the Aug. 14 deadline.

Now, 20% service cuts will go into effect on Sunday, Aug. 24, discontinuing 32 bus routes and shortening many more just one day before school begins for the Philadelphia School District.

In addition, fares will increase by 21.5% on Sept. 1, 2025, raising the new base fare for weekday bus, train and trolley rides from $2.50 to $2.90.

Ultimately, SEPTA will cut service by 45% by the end of the year.
