An armed man is barricaded inside a home in Arleta Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD officers were called at approximately 12:51 a.m. Monday to the intersection of Gruen Street and Canterbery Avenue regarding a report of a man with a gun, where they learned the man was armed and refusing to leave the residence, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

According to LAPD, the man was released from the hospital Sunday morning after being hospitalized for a drug overdose. 

When he arrived home, he was very agitated and began threatening family members with a pistol, police said. 

The man was said to be inside the home with firearms, according to LAPD. His mother felt scared and called police and the home was evacuated. 

Officers from the department’s SWAT team are on the scene and attempting to negotiate the suspect’s surrender, police said.

SWAT is working to get the man to turn himself in peacefully, LAPD said.Police have evacuated the immediate area.
