A 23-year-old man is being sought by police after, officials claim, he shot and killed a man who was dating his mother during an incident that happened in North Philadelphia on Sunday night.
According to police, at about 9:29 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, officers responded to a home along the 1500 block of North Gratz Street, after 42-year-old Direll Skipworth had been shot in his chest, back and leg.
Skipworth, officials said, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced at about 9:54 p.m.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute that Skipworth had with his girlfriend. That evening, officials said, the 23-year-old son of Skipworth’s girlfriend — who officials provided no further identifying information on — is alleged to have shot Skipworth after engaging in a physical altercation with him.
After the shooting, police said, the 23-year-old alleged gunman is believed to have fled the scene.
No arrests have yet been made.
But, officials said, an investigation is ongoing.
