Times Square partially shut down over suspicious package

01:06

A suspicious package that was under investigation Monday in Times Square has been deemed non-hazardous, police say.

The New York City Police Department shared the update around noon after evacuating part of the popular tourist destination.

Police said they received a call around 10:30 a.m. for a possible suspicious package at West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Investigators said they were looking for someone who dropped the package and then left.

Chopper 2 flew overhead, where the NYPD Bomb Squad could be seen blocking off streets, as people were asked to avoid the area.

Streets have started to reopen, but drivers should expect delays.
