Indiana Fever fans got the best of both worlds on August 17: heart-pounding action on the court and plenty to cheer about off it. They didn’t just get a win, they got a show. The Fever toughed out an overtime victory against the Connecticut Sun, winning 99-93 and bumping their record to 19-16.

The drama didn’t end with the final buzzer, thanks to standout scoring by Kelsey Mitchell, who exploded for 38 points, and a strong supporting effort by Aliyah Boston, who chipped in with 14 points and some serious style off the court.

How Did Sophie Cunningham’s Instagram Surprise the Indiana Fever?

After the victory, Sophie Cunningham jumped on Instagram with a carousel showing off her August adventures. Among all the pictures, one got the fans talking: Cunningham and Lexie Hull sporting matching “cowboy chic” looks. Both wore yellow crop tops that shouted “Howdy Cowboy,” paired with denim skirts and cowboy boots for a full-on western vibe.

Fans flooded the comments right away. One of the biggest admirers was their own teammate, Aliyah Boston, who posted a quick two-word reaction: “Slayyyy babesss,” commented Boston.

This wasn’t the first time those outfits made waves. Earlier in August, before the Fever’s August 7 game against the Phoenix Mercury, the team’s official X account dropped photos of Cunningham and Hull in a similar cowboy getup. It brought extra energy before the game, but Indiana ended up on the wrong side of a 95-60 final.

Why Does Sophie Cunningham Keep Returning to Cowboy Fashion?

Cunningham’s love for cowboy vibes goes back beyond the last month. In December, she was spotted at the Las Vegas Convention Center at the “Cowboy Christmas” event rocking classic western style, denim Daisy Dukes, a sheer black top under a slick leather jacket, boots, and a matching hat. The look even featured a Burberry bag for good measure.

While in Vegas, Cunningham met some of rodeo’s biggest names, including bull-riding stars Stetson Dell Wright and JB Mauney. It’s clear that cowboy style is more than just a onetime thing for her.

What Happened to Sophie Cunningham in the Indiana Fever’s Overtime Win?

Cunningham’s Sunday had a twist. She went down with a knee injury in the second quarter against the Connecticut Sun while defending a play. Connecticut’s Bria Hartley drove hard to the basket and collided awkwardly with Cunningham’s right leg.

Cunningham grabbed her knee and needed help getting off the court. She didn’t return for the rest of the game, spending the remainder of the contest on the bench. Even so, the Fever found a way to rally. Indiana trailed by as many as 21 points, but caught a groove in the second half and forced overtime. The Fever outscored the Sun 10-4 in the extra period to lock up the win.

Now the team turns its attention to the next challenge. Indiana will host the Minnesota Lynx on August 22 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Whether Cunningham will be available is anyone’s guess.
