Summer’s most dangerous heatwave so far is expected to hit Southern California this week. The NWS Los Angeles has stated that “dangerous heat is possible for the latter half of this week.” Temperatures will begin to warm up on Monday and continue to climb throughout the week as high pressure builds. Triple-digit heat in some areas and elevated fire conditions are expected to begin Wednesday and continue for several days.
Rising Temperatures
On Monday, Los Angeles and Orange counties will have partly cloudy skies, with highs near 84. However, temperatures are expected to climb to around 90 by Thursday and Friday. In the valleys and Inland Empire, Monday brings sunny skies with a high of 93. And in those areas, triple-digit heat is expected to arrive by Friday and Saturday.

The NWS Los Angeles has also stated that “an extreme heat watch has been issued from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday evening.” According to the NWS, an extreme heat watch is issued when dangerous heat is possible. Keep an eye out for increasing temperatures this week that could possibly lead to an extreme heat warning.
With triple-digit heat arriving later this week paired with the dry conditions of the season, the risk of wildfires is expected to increase across Southern California. The latest wildfire warning comes just 10 days after mandatory evacuation orders were issued for L.A. and Ventura Counties due to the Canyon Fire.
