A man armed with a knife and pepper spray died Monday in what is being investigated as a possible in-custody death after police responded to a disturbance at a Hollywood hotel.
Officers responded at about 5:30 a.m. to the hotel in the 6700 block of West Sunset Boulevard. When police arrived, they heard a man screaming and forced their way into the hotel room, the LAPD told NBC4 Investigates.
The man in his 30s was armed with a knife and pepper spray, but was quickly taken into custody without use of force, police said. The man then appeared to suffer a heart attack, police said.
Police performed CPR and called for an ambulance. The man later died at a hospital.
The case is being investigated as a possible in-custody death, the LAPD said.
Details about the man’s identity were not immediately available.
