SAN ANTONIO, Tx — It’s been four months since 14-year-old Simon Cuevas was attacked by a group of boys when one of them pulled out a gun, killing him.
18-year-old Fernando Flores is now in jail charged with capital murder for the death of Simon Cuevas. Although one suspect is now in custody, Simon’s mother Alejandra Cuevas still feels justice is out of reach.
“I love you,” Alejandra Cuevas said. “I wish this wasn’t real, but because it is I’m going to do whatever I can to make sure justice is served for you.”
On April 16 Simon Cuevas was followed by five suspects after he left Brewer Academy. Police say the suspects planned the attack near South Elmendorf and Merida that left Cuevas on the ground fighting for his life. Police say 18-year-old Fernando Flores allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Simon Cuevas in the abdomen killing him.
“I wake up and go through every emotion from angry to sad,” Alejandra Cuevas said. “Then I have to gather myself together and get ready for my day. “
Witnesses told police the boys in the video seen jumping Simon Cuevas were juveniles but at least two suspects are adults. Simon Cuevas’ mother is plagued with questions. She says her son did not know any of the men accused of his murder.
“We have yet to be given all those details,” Alejandra Cuevas said. “I know the truth will come out eventually. I wouldn’t want any other mother to feel my pain. No mother deserves to bury their child.”
Police are still needing help finding 20-year-old Ceasar Tijerina in connection with Simon Cuevas death.
