LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Nevada’s unemployment rate saw a slight decrease in May, dropping by 0.1 percentage points to 5.5%, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) latest economic report.
The state’s labor force expanded by 3,484 individuals.
The total number of nonfarm jobs in Nevada reached 1,580,400, marking a 0.6% increase over the past year and an addition of 500 jobs since April 2025.
In the Metropolitan Statistical Areas, Las Vegas employment rose by 600 jobs, a 0.1% increase since April, and by 2,100 jobs, or 0.2%, since May 2024. Reno saw an increase of 200 jobs, or 0.1%, since April, and 3,800 jobs, or 1.4%, since May 2024.

Carson City employment remained unchanged since April but increased by 600 jobs, or 1.9%, since May 2024.
“In May, we continued to see modest improvements in Nevada’s labor markets, with ongoing employment growth and further declines in the unemployment rate,” said David Schmidt, Chief Economist. “Further, Nevada’s labor force participation rate increased to 63.0 percent, higher than the national average of 62.4 percent. Wage gains continued with hourly wages up 6.8 percent and weekly wages up 7.5 percent over the last year.”
