“This painting was fascinating to me because of the shapes that surround the main character in the image,” Inbody said. “The woman looks like she has a problem, and it makes me want to help her solve that problem. The color combinations are beautiful, and this one really stands out.”

The exhibit runs through Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2825 Dewey Road, Point Loma. Find out more at sdws.org/galleryart.php?cat=7077.

Midway martial arts team wins another ISKA world title

The demo team from Freestyle Martial Arts in the Midway District won its fourth International Sport Karate Association, or ISKA, world championship in July in Orlando, Fla.

Freestyle martial arts combines traditional martial arts, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, karate and tae kwon do in a floor routine with music.

“We take in what we feel like is the most effective, functional techniques and put it all together. It’s a hybrid of all these different things,” sensei Will Jackson, head coach and co-owner of Freestyle Martial Arts, previously told the Point Loma-OB Monthly.
