The San Antonio Spurs have picked Carter Bryant with the No. 14 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft.

What do NBA writers think of San Anotnio’s selection?

Check out their early NBA draft grades for the pick, which included some very positive marks about Bryant’s potential.

Bryant didn’t put up gawdy numbers in his lone season at Arizona, but he showcased his explosiveness and could be a great fit in San Antonio. He averaged 6.5 points per game for the Wildcats with his athleticism drawing a lot of attention.

Did the Spurs make the right pick at No. 14? Here’s what NBA writers are saying about the team’s selection of Carter Bryant on June 25.

CBS Sports: Spurs get A for Carter Bryant pick in NBA draft

It writes: “Bryant only averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds, but shot 46% on unguarded catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. He’s a high-level athlete and multi-positional defender at just 19 years old. He’s 6-foot-7 and sometimes Arizona would even match him up defensively with opposing point guards. There aren’t many 3-and-D players in this draft but he fits that archetype. It’s critical to build floor spacing for Wemby, Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle. They needed shooting and they got it with this pick.”

Sports Illustrated: Spurs get an A- for Carter Bryant selection in NBA draft

Kevin Sweeney writes: “Bryant earned plenty of lottery attention despite averaging fewer than seven points per game last season at Arizona. The fit is strong in San Antonio as perhaps the best 3-and-D prospect in this draft, possessing impressive positional size, defensive versatility and catch-and-shoot ability.”

For the Win: Spurs land an A- for Carter Bryant pick in 2025 NBA Draft

Bryan Kalbrosky writes: “Carter Bryant didn’t get a ton of opportunity to showcase his full potential during his one-and-done campaign at Arizona. But purely as a basketball player, he has all of the intangible skills needed to succeed at the next level. Bryant was one of the fastest players at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine and had incredible vertical pop, too, which he showcased during his limited minutes in the NCAA with some highlight dunks. He plays hard, he shoots the ball well and he has shown a lot of promise as a defensive prospect as well.”

SB Nation: Spurs receive a B+ for Carter Bryant selection in draft

Ricky O’Donnell writes: “Bryant has an ideal frame for an NBA forward at 6’8, 220 pounds, with a 7’1 wingspan. He’s one of the most explosive athletes in this class, which he leveraged to put up huge block and steal rates defensively. His offense is mostly undeveloped to this point, but he showed solid spot-up shooting at Arizona by hitting 37 percent of his threes as a freshman. What worries me about Bryant is that 80 percent of his baskets were assisted, and he can’t do much with the ball in his hands. That’s less of a concern for a team with Victor Wembanyama and Dylan Harper on the roster. This is a good fit between player and team.”

Fansided: Spurs earn a A- for Carter Bryant pick in NBA draft

Christopher Kline writes: “Carter Bryant’s streamlined role at Arizona made him a tough evaluation, but the entire NBA is looking for wings with Bryant’s athleticism, size and defensive intensity. He’s an efficient spot-up shooter, with a little bit of wiggle getting to his spots in the mid-range. His primary value early on, however, will be taking tough assignments on defense and making an impact with his athleticism. This is about as good a fit for Bryant and the Spurs as was possible at this point in the draft. San Antonio really needs shooting and defense on the wing.”
