The internet has found its favorite “girl dad.”
The moment started when user @Lesvinsindy, Leslie Lupton, posted a video to TikTok of the crowd at Chicago’s Lollapalooza.
“Sometimes your kids ask you to do crazy things. But standing for 7 hours on a hot summer day in Chicago to see @Olivia Rodrigo was totally worth it,” she captioned the video. “Tears of joy and lyrics hitting just right.”
In the footage, fans were quick to notice two young girls getting emotional as Rodrigo sang her song “Pretty Isn’t Pretty.”
Next to them, was their dad, who suddenly realized the emotion from the young girls surrounding him. The video captures the dad growing emotional as he hears the lyrics of the song and witnesses what happening around him.
“Bought a bunch of makeup, tryna cover up my face,” Rodrigo sings, the audience shouting along with her. “I started to skip lunch, stopped eating cake on birthdays.”
TikTok was quick to take note of the dad’s reaction as the video climbed to more than 3 million views.
“Dad is experiencing girlhood rn,” one user commented.
“The dad looking around and realizing so many girls including his daughters feel this way,” another wrote.
In a follow-up video on his daughter’s TikTok account posted Monday, the dad revealed himself to social media.
“I’m the dad in the video at Olivia Rodrigo with my two girls,” he began his message.
He goes on to praise Rodrigo, her band and Chicago, along with the song that started his viral stardom.
“I was just loving the lyrics and everybody was just singing and jamming and it was just an amazing feeling and I kind of got caught up too because the words, they hit so hard and they don’t just hit you guys, they hit everybody,” he said in the video. “Everybody has moments when we feel like crap. As a dad I felt really kind of drawn to both my girls and all the girls around us.”
He went on to share some words of advice.
“Pick yourselves up – it’s easy to tear down. Build yourselves up. You guys are awesome. You guys are rock stars,” he said.
Once again, TikTok responded with love.
“U touched SO many of us,” one user wrote.
“Girl he’s our dad now,” another said.
“GIRL DAD THROUGH AND THROUGH,” another commented.
