Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jonathan Mingo is dealing with a PCL injury.

The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with mounting injuries just weeks before the NFL season begins. Dallas now has another key player sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Star corner Trevon Diggs’ status for Week 1 remains uncertain. Pass rusher Micah Parsons is in a standoff with the Cowboys front office and has requested a trade, putting his future with the franchise in doubt.

The Cowboys are also dealing with a series of injuries on the offensive line. Now, the Cowboys will be without one of their wide receivers who is competing for a starting job. Jonathan Mingo is expected to miss four to six weeks with a PCL injury.

“After injuring his knee on a 49-yard reception against the Ravens on Saturday, further testing revealed Cowboys wide receiver Jonathan Mingo suffered a sprained PCL and could miss four-to-six weeks,” DallasCowboys.com’s Tommy Yarrish wrote in an August 18, 2025, story titled, “Jonathan Mingo to miss 4-6 weeks with PCL sprain, likely to start on IR.”

“Mingo, who the Cowboys traded a fourth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for at last year’s trade deadline, now could start the season on injured reserve and miss the team’s first four games.”

Jonathan Mingo Was Selected by the Panthers in the Second Round of the 2023 NFL Draft

Back in November, the Cowboys acquired Mingo in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. Mingo is a former highly touted prospect coming out of Ole Miss.

The Panthers selected Mingo with the No. 39 overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. Despite playing in eight games for Dallas following the trade, Mingo failed to carve out a significant role in the offense. Mingo posted five receptions for 46 yards with the Cowboys in 2024.

The playmaker has yet to live up to the lofty expectations that accompany being a second-round selection.

Jonathan Mingo’s Injury Could Open Up an Opportunity for Cowboys Rookie WR Traeshon Holden

Mingo is competing with Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin among others to be the Cowboys third wideout this season alongside CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. One player who could get an opportunity in Mingo’s absence is undrafted rookie Traeshon Holden. The wideout has already captured the attention of Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

“Traeshon’s done that every day in practice, literally every day, there’s been one or two big plays,” Schottenheimer remarked to reporters on August 9. “And when you do that, you get noticed. And when you do that, you get more opportunities and I’m just proud of him.

“And, again, he’s a guy that’s going to – you’ll see him moving up the depth chart.”

Cowboys WR Jonathan Mingo Expected to Begin the NFL Season on Injured Reserve: Insider

ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Mingo is “likely” to begin the NFL season on injured reserve. This would mean Mingo would be sidelined for at least four games. Mingo could miss more than six weeks depending on the receovery process, per Archer.

“Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jonathan Mingo is likely to start the season on injured reserve because of a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee suffered in last week’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens,” Archer detailed in an August 18, story titled, “Dallas Cowboys likely to send WR Jonathan Mingo to IR.”

“Mingo is looking at a recovery period of four to six weeks, if not longer, according to a source. …Mingo was competing for one of the receiver spots behind CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and KaVontae Turpin,” Archer added.

“With Mingo likely unavailable to start the season, the Cowboys’ final receiver jobs will come down to Jalen Tolbert, Ryan Flournoy, Jalen Brooks, Jalen Cropper and potentially Traeshon Holden, an undrafted rookie.”
