OGUNQUIT, Maine (WGME) — Officials have issued a warning to beachgoers in Ogunquit after a great white shark was spotted near Little Beach.

The Ogunquit Fire Department says a 6-to-8-foot great white shark was spotted approximately 200 yards off Little Beach near the mouth of the river.

Out of an abundance of caution, officials say Ogunquit beaches are flying the yellow flag.

“This is a reminder that our ocean is the natural home of sharks. We want the public to be aware of today’s sighting, and we are actively monitoring the area for any additional activity,” the Ogunquit Fire Department said.

Please use caution, follow posted advisories, and check in with lifeguards if you have any questions.
