Texas native Cody Johnson will perform a full-length show on March 22, the final day of the 2026 Houston rodeo.
HOUSTON — The 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is months away, but tickets for the final concert go on sale on Thursday, August 21.
Cody Johnson will close out the rodeo with a full-length show on Sunday, March 22. The Texas native and multi-platinum artist will be only the second entertainer to have a concert-only event at RodeoHouston. He’s following in the footsteps of fellow Texan George Strait, who did the last concert-only show in 2022.
“Every performance at RodeoHouston is a privilege, and as a Rodeo man at heart, being asked to perform on a special night like this surpasses any of my wildest dreams,” Johnson said.
Johnson’s last RodeoHouston appearance in 2023 drew more than 73,000 fans. Before that, he played in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022. He also surprised fans with a special appearance during Jelly Roll’s 2024 performance.
The 38-year-old has won a bunch of awards, including the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards Song of the Year for “Dirt Cheap”, CMT Artist of the Year, three CMT Music Awards wins, four CMA Awards including Album of The Year in 2024, and “Best New Country Artist” at the iHeart Music Awards in 2023.

Cody Johnson’s background: From bullrider and prison guard to country superstar
Johnson was born in the tiny town of Sebastopol, north of Huntsville.
When he was a teenager, he competed in rodeos as a bullrider.
Later, he worked as a prison guard in Huntsville, alongside his dad.
“When you grow up in a small town like Huntsville, you do what Daddy did,” Johnson told Westworld in 2017. “When you grow up in a small town like Huntsville, you do what Daddy did,” Johnson told Westworld in 2017. “It was a steady paycheck and there was always a job there. You grow up quickly when you’re eighteen and working in the prison system.”
Johnson credits a warden with convincing him to quit his job and pursue music full-time.
His career skyrocketed with five celebrated albums: Leather, Human The Double Album, A Cody Johnson Christmas, Cody Johnson & The Rockin’ CJB Live, and Ain’t Nothin’ To It.
His new single “Dirt Cheap,” from his Leather album, is one of the fastest chart-moving songs of his career.
Johnson is also the subject of an award-winning feature-length documentary, “Dear Rodeo: The Cody Johnson Story.”
