Operated by Sunroad Automotive Group, the VinFast dealership celebrated its grand opening Tuesday.

SAN DIEGO — Vietnamese electric vehicle maker, VinFast, launched its first California dealership in San Diego on Tuesday.

Operated by Sunroad Automotive Group, the new dealership on Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa celebrated its grand opening.

Le Thi Thu Thuy, better known as “Madame Thuy,” the Chairwoman of VinFast, told CBS 8 that San Diego, and California in general, was prioritized for its strong EV adoption.

“California is a very big market. It’s the biggest EV market in the U.S., with the biggest adoption, the charging station networks. People here live, like, healthy and sustainable lives and they support EVs,” Madame Thuy said.

Thuy and Paul Fillmore, the General Manager of Sunroad Automotive Group, shared that for the last few years, there have been some doubts about EVs in the U.S.

“The EV business has been off, a little bit, with some of the new mandates. There’s some incentives going on that have been nationwide. Those are going away. But the industry itself is here to stay, it’s really put a place and a focus in on having an easier way with vehicles. Obviously, air quality here in California is very important. Having zero-emission vehicles is fantastic,” Fillmore said.

As far as concerns about tariffs, he said it’s too early to tell how tariffs could impact their EV sales and impact those looking to buy a car.

Meanwhile, VinFast now has over 30 dealerships across 15 states. They plan to open more dealerships in other parts of California.
