PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Members of the Phoenix Boys Choir are living every gamer’s dream, being in the game. “It’s surreal, it’s amazing,” said one boy.
For the past two years, the Phoenix Boys Choir worked on the soundtrack for the game “Sword of the Sea.”
With the game now released, Arizona’s Family met up with the boys as they played it for the first time and heard all of their hard work.
“It’s real cool. You’re playing the game but you get to hear your voice in it. You get this sense of pride playing it,” said one member.
Herbert Washington, the artistic director for the choir, said a couple of years ago, a composer with ties to the gaming company Giant Squid reached out to them about doing this project.
“The boys just went to town on this incredible opportunity,” said Washington.
About 40 boys, between 10 and 14 years old, were involved. “The soundtrack is unbelievable and yes, the boys are heard throughout the whole soundtrack,” said Washington.
Performing this music was not as easy as it may seem; sometimes they were given the music the day of recording.
“We have been teaching the boys since 7 (years old) about how to take a piece of music and learn how to read it on your own without having assistance from a piano,” said Washington.
After hearing their singing in-game, this was an experience these boys won’t soon forget. “Hearing yourself in a game that you’re playing just makes you feel so proud,” said one boy.
The choir did get paid for this job. Sword of the Sea is out now for both PC and PlayStation 5.
