We reached out to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and an urban biologist told us that the bobcat appears to be healthy.The DNR said the bobcat was probably just exploring the area before moving along. Bobcats are not uncommon along central Iowa’s river corridors, forest spaces and other natural areas. Sometimes, they stray a little further than their normal stomping grounds.In November, a group of bobcats and their kittens were spotted on the deck of a home in West Des Moines. The DNR told us at that time that bobcats used to be endangered in Iowa but have made a comeback in recent decades.A West Des Moines resident sent in a video of a family of bobcats playing in the grass near the intersection of Fuller Road and South 19th Street.Bobcats do not typically interact with people or pets, the DNR said. The DNR said the bobcat was probably just exploring the area before moving along. Bobcats are not uncommon along central Iowa’s river corridors, forest spaces and other natural areas. Sometimes, they stray a little further than their normal stomping grounds.
