Former Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark is joining Finnish quantum computing company Qmill as both an investor and a board member, according to a statement reported by Reuters.

Qmill, headquartered in Finland, launched its operations last year. In addition to bringing Lundmark on board, former Nokia executive Antti Vasara has also stepped in as chairman of the board.

Quantum computing is rapidly emerging as a promising sector, with numerous startups collaborating with technology giants like Microsoft and Nvidia to develop functional computers capable of solving problems that would take conventional computers thousands of years.

Lundmark stepped down as Nokia’s CEO this spring, having taken over the role in 2020. He has been praised for turning the company around during his tenure.
