Robert Herrera, 52, allegedly commented on a San Antonio news outlet’s Facebook post talking about Trump’s July visit to the Hill Country.
SAN ANTONIO — A 52-year-old San Antonio man could be sentenced to five years in prison after federal officials say he pleaded guilty to threatening President Donald Trump ahead of a recent visit to Texas.
Trump came to the Hill Country on July 11 to meet with local leaders in the aftermath of the deadly Independence Day flooding. On July 10, authorities said, Robert Herrera commented on a news outlet’s Facebook post about the impending visit, writing “I won’t miss” alongside a photo of Trump being taken off the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania, immediately following an assassination attempt last year.
Another account then replied, “you won’t get the chance, I promise.”
Herrera then allegedly replied with, “I’ll just come for you,” with a picture of himself with an assault rifle and loaded magazines. Authorities said he was arrested that same day.
According to the Department of Justice, Herrera appeared in federal court Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to one count of threatening the U.S. president. He could be sentenced to up to half a decade in prison and be slapped with a fine of up to $250,000.
A sentencing date for Herrera wasn’t announced.
