HOUSTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has launched two major advancements to elevate cardiovascular care, research and education in the Houston area and beyond.
A $30 million grant from the Sealy & Smith Foundation — a longtime supporter of UTMB — will establish the Sealy Heart and Vascular Institute. At the same time, the school has announced its new Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.
Renowned interventional cardiologist and academic leader Hani Jneid will lead both. He will be the first chair of the new department and the inaugural director of the institute.
“For me, this is a lifetime work. I am superbly honored and privileged, and the good news is I have a wonderful team with me of cardiologists, practitioners, nurses, technicians and staff,” Jneid said in an interview with the Houston Business Journal. “We are building the future main clinic of the South when it comes to cardiovascular centers and categorical operations.”
