An iconic Fort Worth landmark has officially been added to the map of football lore. Farrington Field, the city’s storied high school stadium, makes a prominent appearance in Netflix’s new docuseries “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” which chronicles the rise of the Dallas Cowboys during the 1990s. For decades, Farrington Field has been the stage for local legends, Friday night showdowns, and a community’s unwavering love for the game — and now, its iconic front facade is streaming for the world to see.

Not that we want to pat ourselves on the back or anything, but we were ahead of the curve on this one, given that Farrington Field was our subject matter for our August cover story. In other words — stagnant or not — this stadium is a big part of our city’s history and sports identity. Apparently, it’s a big enough deal to be added as B-roll footage to this current and very popular documentary.

Opened in 1939, Farrington Field has long been more than a high school stadium. Its Art Deco charm and 18,500-seat capacity have witnessed countless pivotal moments in Texas football. The docuseries highlights how outlying venues like this nurtured the next generation of talent, showing that the roots of the Dallas Cowboys’ greatness often began on small-town fields under Friday night lights.

Beyond the Cowboys connection, Farrington Field is a Fort Worth landmark. It has hosted high school playoffs, Texas Wesleyan University football, and even professional exhibitions in the 1960s. For locals, it’s a place of memories — where generations of families gathered to cheer, where rivalries flared, and where the city’s deep football culture came alive. But this is just a synopsis. Read the cover story for an in-depth background about this hallowed space.

As Netflix puts a spotlight on Farrington Field, it shows that Fort Worth’s pride in its sports history has real merit. Efforts to maintain and modernize the stadium might be a touchy subject, but one thing’s for sure, it’s all Cowtown, in a documentary about a team with Dallas in its name.
