PHOENIX — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southeastern Phoenix area and part of the East Valley is already being affected.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix posted the warning to X around 6:20 p.m. and warned that the storms could possibly produce winds at speeds as high as 60 mph.
There is a severe thunderstorm warning in place until 6:45 p.m. for Apache Junction, Golden Canyon and Queen Valley. NWS warned Arizonans about the potential for pea-sized hail.
In addition, the weather authority issued a special weather statement for Mesa, Chandler and Scottsdale regarding 50 mph winds in those areas until 7 p.m.
NWS Phoenix initially posted regarding “strong storms” developing in the foothills that could produce more than 40 mph around 5:30 p.m.
