QUEENS – An NYPD officer has been shot in Queens, authorities confirmed early Friday morning.
What we know:
The shooting happened around 8:52 a.m. near 143-01 22nd Road in Whitestone. Witnesses said cops appeared to be responding to a carjacking.
What we don’t know:
Officials say the officer, a male, is conscious and alert. He was shot in both the arm and leg. Police are on the scene investigating what led up to the incident.
The alleged shooter is in custody and has a lengthy rap sheet, FOX 5 NY has learned.

A witness told FOX 5 NY that the “screaming of this victim” woke him up. He said he initially believed police were responding to a carjacking involving a man whose car had been stolen. The witness said he then heard loud noises he thought were gunshots.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams has been briefed and is headed to the hospital.
