One Rankin County school had an unexpected guest Friday morning.The Pearl Police Department, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, Animal Control and the Rankin County Emergency Response were called to Faith Academy Christian School on Murray Drive in Pearl.Beau Gray, a student, spotted an alligator in a pond outside the school around 7:30 a.m. when his mother dropped him off.”I’ve been here more than 40 years, and we have never seen an alligator,” Rita Butz, the school’s secretary office manager, said, Officials tried to get the reptile to come out of the water so they could capture it. They were eventually able to coax the gator out of the water and capture it around 1 p.m.Authorities said they were going to return the gator to its natural habitat.The students and staff stayed inside the building until the alligator was captured.
