When Friday’s second round of the 2025 Tour Championship began, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was in prime position. Scheffler posted a 7-under 63 on Thursday, sitting solo second behind Russell Henley.
That earned him a spot in the final pairing on Friday. But unlike Henley, the four-time major winner could not get anything going during his second round. He carded three birdies and three bogeys through 17 holes.
A closing birdie on the par-5 18th allowed him to finish in red figures at 1-under. But at 8-under overall, he now sits five shots behind Henley and fan favorite Tommy Fleetwood.
But if you ask Scheffler, he is not concerned.
“Overall I didn’t really feel like I did too poorly. Just didn’t get a lot out of it,” Scheffler told reporters after his round.
“I think if I continue to strike it the way I did today, it’s just one of those days where it seemed like I wasn’t get rewarded for the stuff that I was doing; just a touch off all day.

“My game definitely doesn’t feel off, but you look at 18, end up a foot off the fairway. 17, I have to chip out sideways. 14, I felt like I hit a good shot in there and it kicked right into the bunker.
“Just little stuff here and there.”
One of his biggest issues was the driver. Unlike Thursday, when he led the field in strokes gained off-the-tee, he actually lost 0.77 shots to the field in that category on Friday.
East Lake Golf Club, like most courses, is highly penalizing if you miss the fairway. Scheffler paid the price for that.
If he wants to win back-to-back FedEx Cup titles, that will have to improve. But now there are several stars between him and the lead.
Fleetwood, Cameron Young, Robert MacIntyre, and Patrick Cantlay each passed him on the leaderboard with impressive rounds.
But if anyone can make up the ground, it is the best golfer since Tiger Woods.
