SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) has adopted a $541.1 million budget that will go toward employee raises and shrinking the existing budget deficit.
The district is slated to spend $21.5 million on raises for the 2025-26 school year. The budget includes a $14 million fund approved earlier this year to raise wages for employees including teachers, auxiliary personnel and paraprofessionals.
According to the San Antonio Report, district chief financial officer Dottie Carreon says the budget will likely be amended as more details about the interpretation of House Bill 2 become available.
HB 2, which Gov. Greg Abbott signed in early June, will give public education funding in Texas an $8.5 billion boost. Nearly $25 million of that is expected to go to SAISD.
The new district budget follows SAISD cutting central office jobs, operation costs and budgets for campuses.
In 2023, the SAISD board of trustees approved a measure to close 15 schools in the district and merge other schools.
