A friend of the victim told detectives that Kiftan had received a phone call to meet a woman outside. Shortly after Kiftan stepped out, the witness heard gunshots and found him lying unresponsive on the ground. The witness provided detectives with the woman’s first name, which matched the name of a woman linked to the suspect, Naqibullah Habibzoi.
Investigators reviewed Habibzoi’s TikTok account, where he posted comments and videos referencing a dispute with Kiftan over $31,000. In one post, Habibzoi commented that the victim “had his $31,000” and made statements such as, “We never move on without taking our own revenge.”
Habibzoi later claimed his account was hacked; further posts and a voice call obtained by investigators revealed admissions of guilt.
Police say call detailed records and location data confirmed that Habibzoi traveled from Houston to San Antonio on the day of the murder, placing him at the crime scene. License plate readers also captured his vehicle, a blue Toyota Corolla, traveling between the two cities.
He was arrested for murder.
