When asked by investigators how many times these sexual encounters occurred, the Scottsdale officer reportedly said “probably several times.”
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A statewide agency has suspended the peace officer certification of a former Scottsdale sergeant accused of engaging in sexual activity while on duty.
The Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board voted on Aug. 20 to issue a 12-month suspension to Derok Roach, who was terminated from Scottsdale police in February 2025.
Scottsdale police opened an internal investigation in 2024 after the agency became aware of possible misconduct that allegedly began in 2022, according to AZPOST records.
A woman told investigators about four instances in which she and Roach engaged in sexual conduct at various locations while Roach was on-duty. She noted how these encounters allegedly happened in his work vehicle.
“While Roach said he did not remember the specific dates and details, he did not deny the sexual activity,” an AZPOST document states.
When asked by investigators how many times these on-duty instances occurred, Roach reportedly said “probably several times.”
Investigators apparently confirmed through payroll records that Roach was working when these instances allegedly happened.
“There was no evidence to suggest any calls for service went unanswered during these encounters,” the AZPOST report states.
After reviewing the facts of the case, members of the AZPOST board agreed with the recommendation to issue a one-year suspension. The regulatory agency is responsible for reviewing allegations of misconduct involving sworn officers throughout Arizona and choosing whether to revoke, suspend or take no action against an officer’s certification.
An attorney representing Roach told the AZPOST board that Roach “recognizes the errors and his actions and he takes full responsibility for them” before adding that they agree the 12-month suspension is “appropriate.”
The suspension begins March 1, 2025 and ends March 1, 2026.
