Year 2 is off to a solid start for Dallas Trinity FC.

With goals from Wayny Balata and Allie Thornton, Trinity opened its 2025 campaign with a 2-1 win over Spokane Zephyr FC on Saturday night at the Cotton Bowl. Trinity found itself trailing early, but bounced back with a fast-paced second half.

Spokane opened the scoring in the 21st minute when striker Ally Cook found the back of the net. Cook’s scoring opportunity came when midfielder Mollie Rouse sent a long pass down the right side of the field. Despite facing defensive pressure, Cook adjusted to score an angled shot.

Trinity found a response in the 48th minute, moving quickly upfield with a series of combination passes. Forward Tamara Bolt set Balata up for the tying goal with a cross inside the 18-yard box. Balata made the most of the opportunity by heading the ball past the Spokane keeper.

About 22 minutes later, Trinity flipped the score with a goal from Thornton. The USL Super League’s defending Golden Boot winner was in the right spot after Spokane’s keeper deflected a shot from Trinity midfielder Chioma Ubogagu. After Ubogagu’s shot was deflected, Thornton sent the loose ball past Spokane’s keeper with a header from close range.

After making a postseason run in its first year of existence, Trinity is looking to maintain its spot as one of the USL Super League’s top clubs. That quest will begin with a season-opening victory.
