If one of the hardest reservations to get in Fort Worth has been plaguing you, great news: Teddy Wongs, the Asian sensation known for its stellar dumplings and wine list, is opening a location on the Square in downtown Weatherford, taking over the space at 102 Houston Ave., that was previously occupied by Italian restaurant Zeno’s.

According to co-owner Kevin Cates, the restaurant will open in the fall.

This will be a second location for Teddy Wongs, which made its debut in the Near Southside in 2023, and has earned applause and acclaim, including winning a CultureMap Tastemaker Award in 2025 for Restaurant of the Year in Fort Worth.

Cates co-founded the restaurant with partner Jeffrey Yarbrough and chef Patrick Wu, who also has a dim sum spot, Bushi Bushi, in Addison, and previously owned restaurants in New York and Dallas. Yarbrough has since left to focus on restaurant real estate.

Cates says that the Square was a no-brainer, for a number of reasons, including demand. The Fort Worth location stays at capacity, and they noticed that many customers were coming from the west side of town: Weatherford, Aledo, even as far as Stephenville and Mineral Wells.

“We don’t want to do anything to impact the sincerity and authenticity of what we have [in Fort Worth], but we have a concept that has some legs and we could open another location or two — without becoming a big chain,” Cates says.

The Weatherford space represents a big departure from the Fort Worth original, which is a converted 7-Eleven with a unique, intimate, cave-like feel.

Weatherford is in a historic building with big windows looking onto the vibrant square around the courthouse. The quaint town is known for attracting customers like Taylor Sheridan, as well as the cast of the shows he shoots on his 4 Sixes Ranch and around DFW.

“Weatherford, quarter horses, cowboys, Landman… It doesn’t take a lot of vision to see Fort Worth growing towards Weatherford,” Cates says.

Another bit of curb appeal came from the city, which worked with the restaurant to guarantee a pair of dedicated spots for takeout in the busy downtown area — a cornerstone for any Chinese food restaurant. According to Cates, takeout makes up about 25 percent of their business in Fort Worth.

The Weatherford location of Teddy Wongs will serve lunch and dinner, with a limited version of the Fort Worth menu to start, but with plans to expand it after opening.

The wine list, for which it is well known, will also be the same to begin. Teddy Wong’s in Fort Worth is adding liquor and cocktails soon, and the Weatherford location will have them when it opens.
