Sabrositos Hondurenos, LLC, based in Edison, N.J., is recalling about 32,000 pounds of meat products after federal officials discovered they were produced without the required USDA inspection and carried false inspection labels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Wednesday.
The recall covers a variety of products, including chorizo, pork chops, and ribs, sold under the “OLANCHO” brand.
Packages carried a fake USDA inspection mark with the nonexistent establishment number “EST. 1785.”
Which products are recalled?
- 14-oz. vacuum-sealed packages of “OLANCHO Chorizo Suelto Olanchano SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS”
- 14-oz. packages of “OLANCHO Chuleta Ahumada Olanchana SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS” (smoked pork chops)
- 14-oz. packages of “OLANCHO Chorizo Ahumado Olanchano SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS” (smoked chorizo)
- 14-oz. packages of “OLANCHO Chorizo Olanchano Criollo SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS” (cased homestyle chorizo)
- 14-oz. packages of “OLANCHO Chorizo Parrillero SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS” (smoked BBQ spicy chorizo)
- 14-oz. packages of “OLANCHO Costilla Ahumada Olanchana SABROCITOS HONDUREÑOS” (smoked ribs)
The issue came to light during routine FSIS surveillance when investigators found products in commerce with fraudulent inspection marks.
No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported, but FSIS warns that consuming uninspected meat could pose health risks, including exposure to harmful bacteria or undeclared allergens.
What should you do if you have recalled meat?
- Do not eat the recalled products.
- Throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
Restaurants should not serve the affected items and should also dispose of them. A list of retail locations that received the products will be posted on the FSIS website as it becomes available.
