San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters following Saturday night’s preseason finale—a 30-16 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. He shared the following key injury updates from the game:
- OL Isaiah Prince suffered a knee injury and didn’t return.
- TE Brayden Willis sustained a neck injury and didn’t return.
- QB Tanner Mordecai suffered an ankle injury but returned.
- The 49ers believe CB Jakob Robinson suffered a broken forearm.
On Robinson’s injury, Shanahan noted, “We’ve got to X-ray it for sure and everything, but that’s what it sounded like.”
Shanahan also shared the following update on players dealing with previous injuries:
- WR Jacob Cowing could miss at least six weeks due to a torn hamstring.
- LB Tatum Bethune didn’t play because of a sore back.
- RB Jordan James (broken finger) is “pretty close” to returning and is considered week-to-week.
- The 49ers expect Jauan Jennings (calf) to return for Week 1.
- The 49ers hope to get DL Mykel Williams (knee) and CB Upton Stout (calf) back at practice this coming week.
On Jennings’ calf injury, Shanahan said, “I expect him to be back. I think he should be back from it, but you never know with calves.”
On Williams and Stout, he added, “Really hoping to get those guys back. They haven’t guaranteed it to me, but I think we will. But I won’t know that officially until tomorrow. I know a lot of them had workouts today, and that’s something we’ll discuss tomorrow when we come in.”
The 49ers have two weeks to prepare for the 2025 NFL season opener. They’ll travel to Lumen Field to face the Seattle Seahawks on September 7.
