Lucie Siewe, 49, was arrested for animal cruelty at her home in Humble by deputies with Harris County Constable Precinct One’s Animal Cruelty Unit.
HUMBLE, Texas — A woman was arrested at her home in Humble on Friday and charged with cruelty to an animal, Harris County Constable Precinct One Alan Rosen announced.
The tiny, black kitten was dumped along FM 2100 in northeast Harris County in late July. As the woman in a black Ford 150 pick-up truck pulled away, she ran over the kitten, which suffered broken bones and internal injuries.
The incident was captured on video by a witness.
Precinct One and the Houston SPCA offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the woman’s identity.
Three weeks later, Lucie Siewe, 49, was arrested.
“There is a right way and a wrong way to treat animals and this way was not only wrong, but criminal,” Constable Rosen said. “We know that for many people, pets are family and this should have never happened. If she did not want the kitten, there were plenty of ways to put it up for adoption.”
The badly injured kitten was rescued by the Houston SPCA’s animal ambulance. Now three months old, Alex is recovering after surgery for multiple fractures and other treatments for a deep leg wound, according to the SPCA. He most recently underwent a lifesaving surgery performed by a Houston SPCA veterinarian to repair a diaphragmatic hernia.
“He’s probably used three of his nine lives through this,” said Dr. Roberta Westbrook.
“It’s always heartbreaking to see, animals being treated cruelly… we encourage people, you know, if you have a pet that you need to rehome, you want to find a new family to care for them to contact us,” Westbrook said.
