Geddes, N.Y. — Gates to the New York State Fair reopened at 5:45 p.m. Sunday after thunderstorms rolled through the Syracuse area.
The entrance gates had been closed shortly before 5 p.m. as heavy rain and strong winds lashed the fairgrounds.
Officials made multiple announcements starting at 3:30 p.m. to take cover during the storms. Fairgoers packed inside fair buildings.

Two concerts scheduled for Sunday evening at the fair would go on as planned, officials said.
GROUPLOVE was set to take the stage at Chevy Court at 6:30 p.m., a slight delay to the start time. Busta Rhymes is set for 8 p.m. at Suburban Park.
About 1,000 National Grid customers were briefly without electric power. The outages were resolved by 6 p.m., according to the utility company’s website.
