Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones will be joining us every Monday to talk about what’s important in our city.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones stopped by the KENS 5 studio Monday to talk about important issues in our city.

One of the biggest issues San Antonio is facing right now is the planned Spurs downtown sports and entertainment district, Project Marvel.

Mayor Jones has said she believes the city should still seek an independent study. We asked what value she sees in pushing for that, as well as funding avenues for the city’s part in the new area would ultimately cost.

Some other items discussed include:

  • Plans to call for a vote to approve the revenue bond as soon as may and whether this be her next line of defense.
  • Mayor’s stance on Project Marvel and what she would like to see happen before she fully gets onboard with the project.
  • City Manager presented a $4 billion dollar budget last week to council. What moves will be done to close the $21 million dollar gap without increasing the tax rate?
  • City proposing new departments, such as homeless services as well as strategy department. How would they manage funds going to help our homeless population?
